The August edition of Town Talk highlights a month of growth, leadership, and impactful service as the Rotary Club of Colombo Midtown continues its journey under the theme “Unite for Good.”


Welcome New Members to the Midtown Family

August, recognized as Membership Development Month, marked the induction of five distinguished professionals into the RCCMT network (page 3):

  • Rtn. S. Sivabaskaran – Chairman, ICBS Group

Their addition strengthens the diversity, expertise, and leadership within the club.


Gearing Up for DGOV – Leadership & Strategy in Focus

At the General Meeting held on 13th August at MaRadha Colombo (page 4):

  • AG Kishani Gunasekara provided strategic direction
  • Launch of new segment: “Rotary Digest”
  • PDG Thariq Thulba shared insights on Rotary history, values, and global impact

This session reinforced alignment, vision clarity, and service excellence.

District Governor’s Official Visit (DGOV 2025)

A major milestone (page 6):

  • Welcomed DG Rtn. Delvin Pereira and district leadership

This engagement strengthened alignment across the Rotary ecosystem.


The 51st Installation Ceremony – A New Era Begins

Held on 27th August at Hilton Residencies, Colombo (page 8):

  • Installation of President Jananga Piyadasa
  • Reflection by IPP Rasini Bandara on impactful 2024–2025 year
  • Recognition of district-level mental health initiative (Healing Mind Matters)

Key Highlights:

  • Contribution to Rotary Foundation
  • Paul Harris Fellow recognition (Dr. Ruchitha Perera)
  • Induction of new members
  • Leadership handover ceremony

This event symbolized continuity, legacy, and forward momentum.


From Planning to Purpose – Blind Walk 2025

Preparatory meeting held on 9th August (page 11)

  • Event scheduled for 11th October 2025
  • Focus on awareness for visual impairment
  • Collaboration with Rotaract & community partners

Blind Walk continues as a signature initiative driving empathy and inclusivity.


Golden Jubilee Community Project – 50 Wheelchairs

A legacy initiative (page 12):

  • Donation of 50 wheelchairs to beneficiaries
  • Continued impact in 2025–2026
  • Focus on dignity, mobility, and long-term care

Rotarian Expertise in Action

PP Rtn. Dhamitha Pathirana contributed as a trainer for SLIM (page 12):

  • Supported SME development under Ministry programs
  • Strengthened entrepreneurship ecosystem

AI for English Teachers – Officially Launched

Launched on 23rd August (page 13):

  • 50+ educators participated
  • 6-week online training program
  • Covers AI tools, gamification, and smart lesson design

A forward-thinking initiative transforming education delivery.


Suwa Matha – Continuing Impact

The maternal health initiative continues its journey (page 14):

  • Monthly nutrition packs (LKR 5,000)
  • Supporting mothers through pregnancy & postpartum
  • Expansion goal: 100 mothers across Sri Lanka
