A New Chapter Begins: Transition of Leadership at Midtown
On 25th June, the Rotary Club of Colombo Midtown marked a significant milestone with its annual leadership transition meeting. In a symbolic gesture, outgoing President Rasini Bandara officially handed over leadership to incoming President Jananga Piyadasa.
The evening reflected gratitude, celebration, and reflection on a successful Rotary year. Members recognized the contributions of board members and key contributors who helped secure district accolades for 2024–2025.
As the club moves forward under new leadership, there is renewed enthusiasm and commitment to creating meaningful community impact together.
Midtown Launches ‘Suwa Matha’ – Supporting Mothers & Babies
In alignment with Rotary’s focus on Maternal and Child Health, RCCMT launched its first project of the year – Suwa Matha.
This initiative provides:
- Monthly nutrition packs (worth LKR 5,000)
- Support for 10 months (pregnancy + postpartum)
The project commenced on 19th July at Panadura MOH Clinic, supporting the first 10 mothers.
The long-term goal is to support 100 mothers across Sri Lanka, ensuring better health outcomes for both mothers and newborns.

A United Effort for Clean Shores
On 26th July 2025, RCCMT partnered with the Centre for Beach Cleanup Sri Lanka at Crow Island for the largest beach cleanup initiative held there.
Key outcomes:
- Significant waste removal from coastal areas
- Strong volunteer participation
- Raised awareness on environmental protection
This initiative reinforced Rotary Midtown’s commitment to sustainability and protecting Sri Lanka’s coastal ecosystems.
A Powerful Start to the Rotary Year 2025/26
The First General Meeting was held on 9th July at MaRadha Colombo, setting the strategic direction for the year.

A new segment was launched to showcase members’ professional journeys.

- Topic: Cloud Computing
- Explained using the “Pizza as a Service” analogy
- Simplified concepts like IaaS, PaaS, SaaS
This initiative strengthens engagement and knowledge sharing within the club.
Rotary Midtown Partners with Co-Energi for Sustainability
On 21st July 2025, RCCMT signed an MoU with Co-Energi (Pvt) Ltd.
Focus areas:
- Environmental sustainability
- Energy efficiency
- Community awareness programs
This partnership marks a strategic move towards data-driven environmental initiatives.
Young Hearts for Little Hearts
Rotary’s Little Hearts Project aims to build a 10-storey Cardiac Care Complex at Lady Ridgeway Hospital.
On 20th July, Interact Clubs of:
- Ilma International
- Gothami Balika Vidyalaya
contributed towards this life-saving initiative, showcasing youth leadership and compassion.
Meeting with Rotaract Leaders – Aligning for Impact
A strategic session was held with Rotaract Presidents & Secretaries to:
- Align annual plans
- Strengthen collaboration
- Drive impactful youth-led projects
This ensures all clubs are aligned with Rotary’s core mission.
First Board Meeting of the New Rotary Year
Held on 16th July, the first board meeting set the foundation for:
- Strategic planning
- Project execution
- Leadership alignment
The board enters the year with a clear vision and strong direction.
Strengthening Bonds Beyond the Meeting Room
On 30th July, members gathered at Excel World for a fellowship evening.
