As part of the Healing Minds Matter Initiative by Rotary District 3220, the first QPR (Question | Persuade | Refer) Gatekeeper Training Programme was successfully conducted on November 6, 2024. The session was hosted at Creative Software’s Training Center, with special thanks to Governor Sushena Ranatunga for facilitating the venue.
The workshop was led by Psychologist Mr. Nivendra Uduman (BA Hons | MSc | MCBT | Certified QPR Instructor) and was attended by over 30 Rotarians from the Rotary Club of Colombo Mid Town and Rotary Colombo Port City. Participants received certification from QPR USA after engaging in training covering:
- Recognizing the warning signs of suicide
- Understanding the common causes of suicidal behaviour
- How to get help for yourself or someone in crisis
- Techniques to prevent suicide and save lives
- By becoming a QPR Gatekeeper, anyone — whether a parent, teacher, friend, or young adult — can make a meaningful difference by recognizing and responding effectively to a crisis.
The programme aims to certify 300 QPR-trained Gatekeepers, with 111 individuals already trained. Through this initiative, the Rotary Club of Colombo Mid Town strives to foster a safer and more supportive community.
