The Rotary Club of Nuwara Eliya took a significant step in mental health advocacy by organizing a QPR Institute Certified Suicide Prevention Gatekeeper Training on February 15th in Nuwara Eliya. The session was facilitated by renowned psychologist and QPR instructor, Nivendra Uduman.
A total of 27 participants – including Interactors from Holy Trinity Central College, teachers from the same school, and educators from Republican International School – actively engaged in the training. The session was conducted in both Tamil and English, ensuring the life-saving knowledge of QPR (Question, Persuade, Refer) was accessible to a wider community.
Special thanks to PP Savishkaran and the Rotary Club of Nuwara Eliya for their commitment to promoting mental wellness. To date, 207 individuals have been QPR certified through these ongoing training sessions, with a target of 300.
Through initiatives like this, Rotary continues to equip communities with the tools to recognize and respond effectively to individuals in crisis, fostering a safer and more supportive society.
